I was told that I didn't really have to write that much, because, afterall, this is a photo blog not a word blog. Maybe that will help me to keep up with it better. Well... here it is... walks, birthdays, and silliness. enjoy.

Artistic inspiration

Today the family and I went to the Cherry Creek Art Festival. This is a 3 day art festival over 4th of july weekend that our family regularily attends. In years past, I have viewed as a interesting time for being outside in the nice weather, walking around, and people watching... never too impressed with the art. However, this year was different. I was totally impressed and inspired. There were rows and rows of booths filled with beautiful AND interesting art. It could not have come at a better time, as I have a sale this weekend in which i need to get some stuff together. ... I have not had time today to go out and take more pictures so, I have looked through my archives and revamped some of the old. please tell me what you think... i need help deciding what to put in the sale. I can't upload them all because there are too many... but i will keep posting... so keep commenting.

Hope you all had a great Independence day! Hoorey America!

go bananas!

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day in the neighborhood, won't you be mine, won't you be mine, won't you be my neighbor? It is a lovely day outside! I have the whole day ahead of me...

My bananas were overripe so I started today going bananas. I made banana sorbet and banana muffins. I am told it smelled up the whole house. I love the smell of fresh baked goods. Now I have to get someone to eat them all... I happened to make mondo muffins! Ah. It just feels like a casual summer day. Smells fresh and clean. My apartment is finally clean to a t... which makes it very calming. Chris is over and we are updating our resumes, and he is eating the muffin with coffee. A bike ride or a picnic sound nice... I am still waiting on summer ideas from you all.
yep... still waiting...
still...

long time

Hello.

been a while. It is harder to keep up then I thought. I might not do it everyday, but don't worry, I won't leave you.

Here are a couple photos from the last week. It has been a busy one. Little time at home (which you can't tell by the disarray of my apt). However, today I cracked down, cleaned it spick and span, and now I rest.

I have been swimming and hiking with kenley (more than once) long summer night with Abby, softball and bbq with the team, painting with mom, chillin and movies with dad. I finally feel like it is summer.... in fact, today I wanted to do something quintessentially summer... i didn't so i am taking ideas for tomorrow. or next week.

So now i am in full swing to get ready for my photo sale in july. I will post some of the photos and I need some advice... let me know how you feel about them. It will help me pick for my audience.

So that is what is going on this week. Ah... I am exhausted.

rainy days...

well... begin the rainy days of the weekend.

It begun last night and has now carried over to the morning.... a rare occurace for Colorado. Like my last post, usually it goes as fast as it comes, but not this time... it has unpacked its bags for a while. I really quite like the rain. Chris and I are sitting in the coffee shop down the street before I have to go to work. It took quite a bit to wake up today, as it is dark and cloudy, definately a sleep in day. But I got up regardless, so I would have some breakfast and time before work.
8 hour wedding today. I am not shooting it... but I am carrying around my boss boss's bags, and learning. I am sure the bride is freaking out as we speak... I don't remember where it is, but usually this time of year it is outdoors... or at least the pictures are. Oh well, We will make the best of it.
Well, I think I will now go off to enjoy Chris's company, and my pastry and chai.
Have a great saturday!

the rain came and went...

The sound of rain resonates out my window as the calm breeze with it carries the smell of leafy dew and wet grass. It is calming, and most importantly cooling. The windows in my apartment are the perfect compliment to summer rain, and though they transfer heat as well, it is well worth having them for a moment like this. Not to mention how nice the sunshine that often floods the house is. .. It is over. Wow. It came and went so fast. When I first started writing this I could see the drops falling from the sky at a slight angle, now the sun has highlighted the tree across the street. I tell you, This Colorado weather is crazy.
The pictures are much less exciting, but regardless. It is the rows of sage growing on my window sill. I planted three things, and that seems to be the only one growing. (As you can see from the vast amount of dirt). I have decided that sage is one of the best herbs. It really adds a beautiful element to a lot of dishes...hamburgers, quiche, pasta...etc. YUM! Come over sometime and I will cook you up a meal with the wonderful plant!
I have felt like cooking a lot lately. (and by a lot, I mean since I have been home... well I guess in Iowa too). I made tomatillo chicken with spanish rice and beans for Chris and his band mates. It was really delicious. Something I have never tried before.. tomatillos that is.... I have been convinced.
This morning I made whole wheat maple pancakes and ham and cheese quiche (didn't eat it, it is in the fridge... but I will get to it- i did try it I guess, and I was nervous because I added fresh rosmary and sage instead of the dried onion) It really was good!
Any ideas on what I should make next? I might need some dinner companions...
Well that is about all I got today. Let me know if you got any thoughts of your own...

Full Day

Wow. Today I feel like I have had a full day... with a full range of activities.

Watched Kenley and played all morning, then went on a run with Gina and laid out by the pool, then on to work and happy hour with Chris, now home to clean and watch a movie. If that is not full, you tell me what is.

It was SO nice today. Not to hot, with a wonderful breeze. I am wanting it to cool down a little to let the steam out of my apt., but it is still too nice to have the refreshing cool breeze, or at least enough of it.

Kenley was funny today. We bounced and spun, and rested on the floor. Just to get up and play chase and as you can see, wear silly hats. I sure do love her.

Well to say the least... I ... am... TIRED. So I will let this trail off into the oblivion of dream land and say my fairwells. One day I will write a longer, more involved post. but for now, i will just show the pictures.

ciao.

Life has no definate rules...

And neither does blogging. That is why I have decided NOT to apologize for not having written and post the 3 pictures that I missed today without a stint. ...

Driving. Ah. And Driving. and who would have thought... HOT! I have arrived back in the humidless town of Denver yet to my suprise it is hotter than... well lets just say pork tenderloin here (ah I will get to that later) Turns out summer came and didn't tell me.

It is amazing how different if feels here already. I was telling Gina that when I was in Iowa, on Vacation, I could do nothing and feel fine about it... good even. Here I still do nothing (as the job is select days...) and yet it feels as if I should be doing LOTS of important things, none of which I have to do. hmm.

So it is a good thing I am doing this photo a day blog, because it makes me take a WHOLE lot more pictures... and I have a show in July so I need some fresh stuff. Road Trip anyone? Seriously, I need to get some lovely photos and make some money!
Wow... normally I am a chatty cathy, but I just don't have it in me tonight... might be the heat, might be my heavy eyelids. Either way, I will shut my trap and just let you enjoy the photos. Because that is what this is about right... (who cares about listening to me sputter on?)
(Thanks for reading... and looking)

Day TWO and change of plans

Well... I have decided to change my plans. I think I will be writing at the end of the day. I seem to be more colorful then.

That means today you will have two posts.... I will keep this first one short. The photographs from my last wedding went up on the website last night. Although I did not take them yesterday, this was a big process in my life and the finale occured last night when I got to see the complete end product. Here are some of my favorites....

I thought this would be a difficult day, but turned out to be beautiful, run pretty smoothly, and I am very happy with the photos.
Big sigh of relief...!

Soda? Pop? SodaPop!

Well which is it? Soda? Pop? or SodaPop? I know now that I say soda, and used to say pop, but let's all face it... we all wish we said sodapop. It sounds so much better, perhaps childlike.

Today is the first day of my photoblog... yes that is right, one photo a day... in the life of Katie Walker. I just now decided that I will be a day behind, that way I can pick my favorite from the day before and inform you on the life of that photo... and me I suppose.

So here is the scoop... (ha)
Wilton, Iowa has the oldest soda fountain/ice cream shop in the world. Meet George. He is 90. It is old and very quintessentially Iowan; Cute, and fun. The family sat at the counter and talked to George and drank Malts. After we had stayed past closing time, we decided it was time to get in the car, smoke my candy cigarette, and drive off into the Iowa sunset. Muscatine is about 11 miles down the road.... where my grandparents call home.

We did a lot more yesterday. In fact the soda fountain was just a snipit in our day of fun. Here is a 30 second look at the rest of the day.

early in the morning, drove dad to meet Andy and Bob
shopped at the outlets
down the road to the Amana Colonies, tried rubarb wine and rocky road crunch fudge... had to buy some of that
Met the grandparents and Pete at Iowa River Power to eat (meat and potatoes of course)
Took some Pictures
Met Herbert Hoover through his library and museum... saw where he was born
Back home, made a road stop at the soda fountain,
Smoked (or rather sucked on) a candy cigarette
and that was it folks. . .

And what of today?... the adventures await.
